Crane Cove Park, Dogpatch, San Francisco CA
As the landscape architects leading the design of Crane Cove Park, our work transformed a complex former shipyard into a dynamic 7-acre waterfront destination that honors San Francisco’s rich maritime heritage. The design retains and celebrates the site’s historic cranes, shipbuilding infrastructure, and industrial relics as sculptural markers that frame views of the Bay and the active shipyard beyond. Working within a site challenged by contaminated soils, access constraints, limited habitat capacity, and rising sea levels, we shaped an environmentally resilient park featuring a sandy beach, open lawn areas, accessible pathways, native coastal planting, and integrated stormwater systems. The park also supports a diversity of land- and water-based activities, including kayak access and community programs housed in historic Building 49. Delivered by a multidisciplinary team of engineers and preservation specialists, Crane Cove Park provides much-needed open space for a growing neighborhood and has become a cherished waterfront destination since opening in 2020.
